Free Push email on your N95 or other S60 mobile - Nokia Email Service Beta
As a Google Apps user and avid fan of the Gmail for Mobile email S60 app I firstly didn’t see much use for myself in Nokia Beta Labs latest release Nokia Email Service Beta.
However I thought I would give it a go.
Basically what this nifty (yes a positive comment) app allows you to do is automatically push all emails sent to your IMAP or POP3 email account directly to your mobile. No more having to login and download your latest emails, no more opening apps such as Gmail for Mobile and hitting the refresh. Any new emails just, appear.
How does this magic happen?
Well the first step is to register at: http://email.nokia.com/account/home.action
Once you have registered you will receive a text message with a customised download link.
Once downloaded the app will auto start and configuration will begin. Drop in your password for verification and you are off and syncing.
The app will then stay running in the background and will automatically receive your new emails with a pleasent tone.
Problems.
Unfortunatly as this is a beta there are some issues. Well not really issues but in my mind oversights.
Firstly. I cant figure out how to turn off the new message tone.
Secondly. You can only configure a single account.
Thirdly and most importantly. You can only specify a single access point. Why Nokia do you not allow for the prioritisation of the access points to use?
This oversight does open the doors in my mind for 3rd Party apps such as Pslioc Connect.
Overall I think this new app has promise and i hope that Nokia do continue to develop it and most importantly keep it FREE!
