How To: use your wifi enabled mobile as a wifi router
Posted on February 24th, 2008 | by decoder |
Joiku have recently released a great little S60 3rd edition app called JoikuSpot which allows you to turn your wifi enabled mobile handset (such as the Nokia N95) into a wifi router.
This could be especially helpful in business situations where for instance, you are in a meeting room with no wireless nor ethernet internet connection and you as well as other attendees to the meeting require internet access.
Best of all, its FREE! So now you can win some major brownie points with the boss or clients when you save the day and close the deal by just using your mobile!

I believe nothing is free. Cellphone network providers still charge you for using the internet. Anyway, it is still cool having a cellphone as a temporary router, switch, modem, or whatsoever to connect to the internet. And i believe wireless communiation is a bit slower compared to cable.

Very good point. Yes your mobile provider will charge you for internet access via your mobile phone. However there are a number of very good mobile internet plans available from the major Australian telcos.
As a 3 mobile customer I subscribe to the X-Series Silver mobile broadband pack (http://xseries.three.com.au/xseries/pricing.shtml) which provides 500MB of monthly bandwidth. This is more than enough for casual handset internet access, daily email and occassional wifi router access.
Using your mobile phone as a wireless router is by no means a permanent replacement for a cable or ADSL connection but is a great short term solution to a emergency situation or casual useage.
